Plot: This takes place after Jess asks Rory to come away with him (in episode 4.21) but then jumps ahead to a time where he sees her with Logan.
Characterization: I can totally see these thoughts going through Jess's mind, especially the part where he gets back to his apartment and realizes what he asked her to come back to and laughs. The alcohol was a little unexpected, but at the same time, I thought it worked well.
Style/Flow: I liked how the events unfolded and how it was simple description, not really much dialogue, which worked beautifully. I see this a lot with Jess fics but I think it works well for him--he's not much of a talker. I liked the end bit with a little piece of Rory's point of view too, that was a nice way to bring it together.
Structure/Grammar/Spelling: No problems here.
Things to Work On : Again, I don't feel right telling people who write Jess what to change or do, since I don't have a very good handle on the character. Just keep writing. Practice makes perfect (and all those other cliches.)
Parts that Rocked Our Socks : The apartment is a mess, strewn with clothes, papers, take-out containers and bills.
He’d asked her to give up everything for this?
The idea of it seems laughable to him.
So he does.
He laughs.
But there’s nothing funny about it.
The burning returns, slow and crackling like amber.
